Group classes, private lessons, dancing at milongas and prácticas, watching videos, reading books, talking to others — there are lots of ways to learn and grow in your dancing. Perhaps the single most productive thing you can do is regular, mindful, intentional, organized practice!
Solo practice, even if you are in a roomful of other people, works on your personal capabilities: balance, strength, mobility, pattern footwork, musicality expression. Solo work prepares you to bring your best dance self to a partner.
Partner practice lets you practice the extra challenges of working with a partner’s balance, sensing a partner’s movement and positioning while also clearly transmitting your own movements and position, plus working on specific Argentine tango grammar and vocabulary.
Happily, there are lots of opportunities for both kinds of practice. In our group classes you will learn what and how you can practice at home or office. You’ll learn how to incorporate some kinds of practice into your daily lifestyle so that you don’t even need to set aside special time for it. You will also learn what it means to be mindful and intentional in your practice, plus thoughts on organizing practice.
The Tango Tribe studio also provides three different practice times during the week. At these times Argentine tango music will be playing. You can practice solo, or with your regular partner, or with others who may happen to be there at the same time. You may wish to arrange practice times with one or more of your classmates.
Additionally, David will be there practicing also, and on an as available basis he can give feedback and answer questions. There are mounts for your smartphone to record your work, and David has an iPad with Coach’s Eye if you want really detailed video feedback.
